An Tuar Ceatha logo

Michael McFarland Campbell is a gay Irish poet living in Monasterevin, County Kildare, with husband Andrew and their cats. Their poems explore love, desire, faith, body confidence, and the small moments that make a shared life. An Tuar Ceatha brings this writing together in a home of its own.

Pronouns: they/them

Separate beds, a shared love, cats claiming warmth, and bears ensuring I never sleep alone.

We sleep apart most nights for now
I find it’s hard to breathe
Alongside the one I love
The oven in the bed

The cats lie with him every night
They love his heat as well
I lie alone upon the floor
At peace with just a bear.

“It’s never just a bear” you say
“It’s always two or more”
With plush-filled friends I cuddle through
The nights upon that floor.
