An Tuar Ceatha logo

Michael McFarland Campbell is a gay Irish poet living in Monasterevin, County Kildare, with his husband Andrew and their cats. His poems explore love, desire, faith, body confidence, and the small moments that make a shared life. An Tuar Ceatha brings this writing together in a home of its own.

A couple cherishes simple joys of life, love, and gratitude throughout their day together.

The morning light shines through the glass,
And fills the room with cheer;
We rise to greet another day,
Content that love is here.

The kettle hums upon the hob,
The coffee starts to brew;
While pancakes sizzle in the pan,
For you and me anew.

We watch the sparrows in the hedge,
Beyond the garden wall;
The simple blessings of the day
Are gifts enough for all.

By evening, sausage, mash —no peas
Are laid upon the board;
No feast of gold or silver plate,
Yet rich beyond reward.

We share the washing-up with smiles,
And talk of things we’ve heard;
For love is fashioned day by day
In deed, and look, and word.

The world pursues its wealth and praise,
Its honours bright and brave;
But we have found a better joy
In all we make and save.

When dusk draws softly round the house,
And stars shine high above,
We give our thanks for daily bread,
For home, and life, and love.
